OMG.
This movie rocked, in a sort of kid friendly, I love cheezy 80's horror flicks sort of way. And ANY movie that includes Souixie and the Banshees cannot be completely bad.
With plenty of nods to your classic big hair 80s horror flicks, this movie was a riot. I would actually take kids to see it...but the adults in the theatre this morning actually probably enjoyed it more than the kids. The plot was straight forward, but fun. The CGI was very good...and it had what most CGI animated features lack this day. Heart. Story. Purpose. A decent storyline.
No big name actors here, but if you like independants, HBO, Nickelodeon, or cartoons, you're going to recognize the voices. Mitchell Musso (Avatar: The last Air Bender), Spencer Locke (Phil of the Future), Steve Buscemi (The Sopranos), Keven James (Everybody Loves Raymond), Catherine O'Hara (Six Feet Under), Fred Willard (SNL, Everybody Loves Raymond), Jon Heder (Napolean Dynamyte). Oh yeah...and Kathleen Turner as the ... well. You'll see.
Anyhow, voice actor name dropping aside, I really liked this film. At 1:45, it was a surprisingly long kids film, but it didn't FEEL long (except I drank most of a mega sized movie soda, and /really/ needed to go by the end of it....). It was well paced, funny, and right on target.
If I were to do a Kid Friendly Halloween Movie Extravaganza, this movie would be there on the list, along with:
Edward Scissorhands
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Goonies
Ghostbusters
House
Yeah. If you liked those, you're gonna like this one.
Three shots of rum!
